Moonrise Kingdom Trailer

Me and Wes Anderson have had a good track record so far, so I’m looking forward to seeing this.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) - ★★★★

How happy is the blameless vestal’s lot! The world forgetting, by the world forgot. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each pray’r accepted, and each wish resign’d. — Alexander Pope, “Eloisa to Abelard”

Not only does this movie contain Jim Carrey’s best performance since the Truman Show, but it also puts on display one of the most endearing and realistic love stories I’ve seen in cinema. Joe and Clem belong together, and they realize this even after their shared memories have faded.

Michel Gondry creates a dizzying, harrowing experience that skips and jumps forwards and backwards in time like a double dutch master. You’re never quite sure how the different pieces of this movie fit together chronologically, and the effects utilized to portray this science fiction of memory erasures are stunning.

It’s true to life in that it portrays genuine love as something so exceptionally, crushingly, maddeningly beautiful.

500 Days of Summer (2009) - ★★★★☆

It’s great seeing Agent Coulson in stuff!

My preconceptions about Zooey meant that I wanted to hate this film before I even watched it. Compound that with the titanic — almost mindless — amounts of adoration teenage girls bestow upon Days of Summer and you can understand how wary I was of watching it in the first place.

The movie works though, in spite of her participation, or perhaps because of it. Tom is a very affable and relateable guy who is surrounded by good friends and a sensible younger sister. He comes off a bit too idealistic in terms of his ideas of love and soul mates, but this flaw drives the plot so it’s fine.

I appreciate this film largely from a technical aspect, as opposed to its content. The rubberband chronology allows a more interesting take on the story, giving past and future context for happier and sadder times. A random song and dance number brightens up the mood and various other moments (Expectations/Reality) add up to a very engaging experience.

Noble Six passes quality control with flying colors. Really thinking about picking up a full set now haha

Chronicle (2012) - ★★☆

Akira did it better 14 years ago.

A spiritual successor to the 2008 film Jumper, in that both involve extraordinary gifts bestowed upon the most uninteresting of people.

The protagonist of this movie is so sadistic that it was impossible to be sympathetic. Supporting cast members do very little to garner any attention, and Seattle proves to be a bland and uninspiring setting.

“Found footage” films can create exhilarating experiences such as Cloverfield, but in Chronicle all sense of action and immersion is separated from the audience via a twenty foot high brick wall.

Hey folks, Ghosty here with another fantastic product.

You watching me camera guy?

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

and Vanilla Ice Cream.

IRON MAN 3

Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian

Aldrich Killian appears in the Extremis storyline.

EXTREMIS CONFIRMED

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) - ★★★★★

It should be called Death of a Fucking Salesman.

The dialog dances and twirls with such a profanity riddled cadence that you sway to the beat of their words.

I can safely say that this film contains four of the most incredible performances I’ve witnessed.

Pacino, Baldwin, Lemmon, Spacey. All brilliant.

Got all A’s this semester.

I shall reward myself with action figures.

IT HAS BEEN DECIDED.

I’ve been spending the past hour drooling over Halo Reach action figures.
These guys are fifty dollars each and there are six guys in the set.
Please make me not want this. Alternatively, convince me to buy it.
EDIT: Thank goodness there aren’t any Team Fortress 2 action figures.
EDIT: On one hand, I would be spending 300 dollars on action figures. On the other hand, they are fucking sweet and come with guns and shit.

I am absolutely terrified of survival horror video games.

But I am playing Dead Space 1 on PC.

On the easiest difficultly, with the lights on, and the sound really low.

All of the tense moments are erased once I start stomping the guts out of everyone.

First chapter was a success, taking a break for today.

The Fifth Element (1997) - ★★★★★

There are times when a film can be so hopelessly goofy that it just seems childish, and then there are films like these.

This movie is so ridiculous, astounding, colorful, and animated that it’s bursting at the seams with energy.

It embraces everything about science fiction that inherently draws audiences in. The sense of adventure, the ingenious technological advancements, the fantastical places and people,

Fittingly enough, while the world in The Fifth Element is no utopia, it is definitely teeming with life. Luc Besson paints a dirty grimy living breathing world and populates it with heroes to cheer for and villains to hiss and boo at.

There was something so spectacularly special about this film.

Minority Report (2002) - ★★★☆☆

There was so much that this movie did right. Nailed the neo-noir feel and a lot of the theoretical technology was well executed.

But the its missteps were so glaring and invasive that they shook me out of the experience.

It’s been a decade since this film was made, give it another ten years and I would love to see a reinterpretation.

Trainspotting (1996) - ★★★

Junkies spiral downward, dragging any and everyone down with them.

The movie itself is well directed and shot, but the subject matter holds no interest to me.

I guess you could say I wanted to like this film.

Someone close to me really liked it, and now I can see why she would.
